Her Story

#whoislilirose

I am a work in progress.

Self discovery is the bravest act I have done to date.  Each day I find myself unlearning false history and giving myself permission to journey into the unknown depths of my own family's lineage.  Although my childhood was enriched with joy and laughter, it was also consumed with hurt, pain, and tears.  Art has always been my method to escape my reality. From writing poetry to songs, drawing, and dancing, I did it all to help my heart heal. And in hopes that someone would hear me, see me ... feel me.  'Til this day, Art is my form of communication.

LiliRose is my story.  With this collection I am sharing moments in my life that impacted my growth as an African American woman ... as a Human. It ranges from self acceptance to overcoming physical and verbal abuse to finding and losing love to forgiveness. It captures moments in which I was able to overcome mountains in order to achieve the greatness I saw within me.

If you see yourself in these designs, I hope it gives you the courage to keep moving forward. We are in this together. We must continue to rise, no matter what the cost.  Our stories shape our character. Our living testimonies are pathways for those who may still need guidance.  And our faith and spirit will never be forgotten.

Like the rose, keep your core beautiful. Fill it with the essentials needed for life.  Represent the essence of love and understanding. And protect the vulnerable, as does a thorn on a rose's stem.
